The index is owned and operated by Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create safer, The Campus Pride Index is a vital tool for assisting campuses in learning ways to improve their LGBTQ campus lifeĪnd ultimately shape the educational experience to be more inclusive, welcoming and respectful of LGBTQ and ally people. The index tool has been tested extensively since 2001 and recently updated with new, higher LGBTQ national benchmarks in 2015. The Campus Pride Index has a strong theoretical research foundation in LGBTQ current programs, practices and policies for safer, more inclusive campus learning environments. Classes through programs like the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program aim to investigate questions of gender, equity, and equality.įinally, UM’s commitment to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan illustrates our dedication to ensuring safety and happiness for all students for years to come. Through programs like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Learning Sessions and Allies Trainings, allies and LGBTQ students, staff, and faculty can learn more about how to support their UM family. We take an active role in education and innovation. UM does not only offer a community for LGBTQ students and allies. Student groups like the Lambda Alliance and the Student Life Activities Committee provide a space for students to express themselves without fear. In Student Life, UM wants to honor LGBTQ history and culture through events like Queer Pride and our annual Rainbow Welcome. No matter who you are, you can find community in Residence Life, or new experiences in classes that recognize our complex world.
